Toshi-Sharib on Chotte Ustaad

Toshi and Sharib were present on the sets of Chotte Ustaad last week in an episode which was a precursor to the Grand Finale. With the top three jodis all set for the competition, the show also had other ex-reality show contestants like Aishwarya, Debojit, Harshit Saxena, Ravi Shukla and Shadab Faridi coming to support the Chhote Ustaads. The handsome John Abraham, the witty Raghu Ram and the stunning Pakhi tyrewala from the team of “Jhootha hi Sahi” also came to show their support to the Chhote Ustaads.

Toshi-Sharib came to give their support to the kids and appeal for votes. Toshi was very impressed with the singing of the kids and said that it was almost "impossible" to sing so well at such a tender age. They sang their two hit numbers Maahi and Sainya Ve. The crowd as usual loved the performance and the brothers had fun performing on stage. Toshi was spotting a new look hairstyle and facial hair.

Toshi and Sharib are both ex-reality show contestants and are the rare success story to come out of these shows. They are by far the most successful reality show contestants of recent times. For the videos please check out our Videos Section.

Toshi-Sharib: Next Bollywood Duo!

Picture
Toshi and Sharib have recently been on a musical tour in the middle east in places like Jeddah and Kuwait. Fans there have gone crazy by seeing the brothers perform their hits! In an interview with Saudi Gazzet, here is what the brothers had to say while on tour.

Toshi Sabri looked a little different this time when he came to Jeddah for a concert held last week. Actually, it was a very positive and striking change. He has started emulating the “macho man” look with slightly long hair - not unlike an Italian “hero” - that is making hearts swoon. “Are you going to do films?” Saudi Gazette asked him, for the reason why he has changed his appearance. “No no,” he replied with a smile. “Actually, I have been weight-lifting for my fans so that I can look good to them when I perform. I spend a number of hours each day in the gym.”Unlike Toshi’s boyish look, his younger brother Sharib - who also performed at the event last week - sports a buzz cut, not unlike that of Aamir Khan’s in “Ghajini”.

The young Sabri brothers came across as friendly, confident and straight-forward. The mystical bond of brotherhood that this handsome duo has is cherished by their fans. To be a duo, it is very important to be united, and the Sabri brothers are very much supportive of each other. One is nothing without other. “It was Sharib’s ‘Mahe Ve’, which made me heartthrob after I sung it. He composed it and I sang it,” Toshi told Saudi Gazette in the interview. “Sometimes being a brother is even better than being a superhero. He is a friend given by nature.

“Now the trend in Bollywood has changed,” added Sharib. “No composer gives a chance to just a singer. Everyone composes and sings too. Actually, it is the composer who make the whole song that requires so much effort and the singer takes away the credit for it by just giving his vocals.”Specializing in many genres ranging from Qawwali to Pop, the Sabri brothers were trained under their father Ustad Akram Sabri – an esteemed classical and Ghazal singer. “We have inherited our passion for singing from him. We decided to achieve our goal to become successful singers so we focused on a career in singing from a very initial stage of our lives,” remarked Sharib.

The duo are versatile enough to perform classical and pop simultaneously and manage to engage the audience with full energy once on stage.“Sharib arrived in Mumbai before me in 2004”, said Toshi. “I was living in Hong Kong and Singapore at that time looking for a singing job. I arrived in Mumbai in 2006 to look for work as a singer.”The duo started their careers with reality TV before moving on to playback singing. Sharib - who is four years younger than Toshi - auditioned for Zee TV’s “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa” and Toshi was a finalist in Amul “Star Voice of India” which kick-started his career and ensured that he has never looked back since then. Recently, they participated in “Music Ka Maha Muqabla”, aired on Star Plus, which would be the fourth reality show for both of them.

Toshi was a part of the Mika’s Blasters team which was eliminated early. He did all in his power and performed his most famous song “Maahi’” in one round. Compared to other singers, Toshi clearly proved in the show that he deserves whatever he has achieved in Bollywood. When asked why the captain of the team and singer Mika was so aggressive during the show, Toshi replied straight-forwardly, “It was all for the sake of TRP (Television Rating Point - the criterion that indicates popularity)...Mika can do anything. He is a dear friend.”Sharib was a member of “Shankar’s Rockstars”, the team which won the show. “It was a good experience for me as my team won. I realized the value of being a trained vocalist as Mika always left the decision on Toshi in show saying ‘you are trained singer…you know better than me, so take your decision,” said Sharib.

After participating in the reality show “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa”, Sharib got the opportunity to assist music directors Jatin-Lalit while working on “Fanaa” and “Hum Tum”, and he realized his newfound flair for music direction. “Actually, no reality show can make or ruin a star. If you have talent, you will achieve what you want. Losing a reality show does not mean that you are not talented,” remarked Sharib.Toshi thinks that the viewers have stopped accepting new talents. “Now they remember and focus on those only who are already famous. It doesn’t matter what a performer does, if he is already acknowledged.

There is lots of competition and viewers are tired of watching new people,” he said. Are reality shows really fixed? Toshi smiled and replied: “Grapes are sour. People who don’t win, criticize other in this way. Be a man and accept the result. I was out many times in such shows but I never griped.”When asked why judges sometimes seem very harsh in their comments in such shows - even insulting the participants at times - Toshi agreed that their behavior is often unfounded. “Yes they insult participants and sometimes talk extra, and this should not happen. Many times, participants are better and more experienced than the judges,” he said.

Toshi has been in the music business for 15 years. His parents are urging him to marry now. “I am 26 right now and my parents are searching for a wife for me...I will accept their decision,” he remarked. “I believe in blessings, especially from parents. I will go with their choice. When I was performing Umrah, I heard many voices of the people who recognize me and called me by my name. Surprisingly, some were Arabs and one such among them was an old lady. I went to her as she could not come to me. She liked my behavior and gave me lots of blessings which were very precious for me. I am always seeking prayers.”Toshi and Sharib are busy planning their new music compositions these days but what’s about their own album? The duo replied: “When we launch our own album, every song will be as good as ‘Mahe Ve’!”

Sharib to Feature in Shankar's Rock-Stars Album

Picture
Shankar Mahadevan along with his team Shankar’s Rockstars are in a high after winning the grand finale of the music show Music Ka Maha Muqabla. Shankar beat Shaan, who along with his team, Shaan’s Strikers also put up a commendable performance. But the journey does not end here.

Shankar is also planning to release an album with his Muqabla teammates which include Rahul Vaidya, Sharib Sabri, Sanjeev Kumar and Neetii Muhan. When asked about his plans he replies, “I want to release a rocking music album with my teammates. They are such amazing singers. They are hard working and talented youngsters. I would love to have them sing a song or two for my upcoming movie scores because they have the potential to bring in freshness to them. They are bright and down-to-earth kids.”

However this is not the first time Shankar is seen endorsing young talent. Shankar is also planning to launch a music school with Ehsaan and Loy his long time teammates. The school is said to be in Mumbai and is being founded with a view to support young talented singers. Shankar also kept his promise to Sa Re Ga Ma Pa participant Tushar who was seen lending his voice to the track ‘Oh Boy’ in Housefull.

As for the success of his team he says that though his team was confident about the performance, results are something that cannot be predicted. “Shaan’s team was strong. They put up some fine acts and came across as being very confident. But I didn’t expect a few performances to go the way they did. There were Jugalbandis and even some solos. I didn’t know how they would turn out but they went on smoothly. I’m sure that impressed everyone and we won.”

Here’s hoping that Shankar would keep up to his promise and the contestants get some real opportunities lying ahead.

Quite like Bollywood, reality TV shows have become family ventures with one success story inspiring the rest to try their luck.

The ‘Saiyaan ve’ brothers, Toshi and Sharib Sabri, are busy planning their new music compositions. They started their careers with reality TV and moved on to playback singing.

Snug in their 2 BHK apartment in Lokhandwala, the brothers thank reality TV channels for giving them a platform. Sharib, the younger one, auditioned for Zee TV’s Hero Honda Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and his success encouraged Toshi to follow suit. With dreams of “becoming another Sonu Nigam”, Toshi fled from Jaipur - where he used to perform at small time birthday parties and weddings - at age 15. He found his fortune with Amul Star Voice of India . “Between the two of us, I was more inclined towards singing. Sharib was busy making mischief,” he smiles.

Sharib rarely obeyed his father’s plaintive requests to learn how to play an instrument. But a few trips to bhai Toshi’s music shows changed his outlook. “Watching him perform on a stage decked with sound systems made me want to do it too,” he says. So Sharib, then a Class 8 student, landed in Mumbai to test his luck. “When I called, my mom cried while dad stuck to his stern, ‘Yeh raasta tumne chuna hai’ sentiment,” he recalls.

But reality TV wasn’t a smooth ride all through. Despite being in the fourth position at Amul Star Voice of India , Toshi wanted to break away from the channel and not remain a “production house product”. With producer-director Gajendra Singh’s help, he left within six months of his three-year-long contract with Star Plus to try playback singing.

But Sharib had to suffer choppy waters after being eliminated from Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. Fortunately, Jatin (of Jatin-Lalit duo), whose team Sharib was a part of, allowed him to live in his music academy in Juhu. “Gradually, I started assisting Jatinji in his work. I would help him while working on Fanaa and Hum Tum, only to realise my newfound flair for music direction.”

The shows nevertheless gave the brothers a foothold in the ultra-competitive industry. Is there professional rivalry between the two? “Our clashes are only creative,” quips Toshi. The globetrotting siblings are quite comfortable sharing one room in their Lokhandwala flat, while the other is used as a guest-cum-riyaaz room. Toshi says, “My brother and I use the second room for work. It has our music system, speakers and my Macbook now.”

Sharib Wins Music ka Maha Muqabla!!

Victory bells have been sounded! The verdict is out! Shankar's Rockstars were crowned winners of the country's ultimate musical challenge at the Grand Finale of Amul Music Ka Maha Muqqabla, which was telecasted LIVE on Star Plus with thousands of fans and live audience voting for the ultimate winner.

The Rockstars defeated opponent Strikers after a stupendous competition with months of hard work and a determination to take home the coveted title. Special guest, Madhur  Bhandarkar handed over the Singer of the Day trophy to Anwesha, from Shaan's Strikers.

The Rockstars presented an astounding performance right through the night with their star singers Rahul Vaidya, Neeti Mohan, Sharib and Sanjeev stealing the show. Their astounding performance on the medley round swept the audience off their feet giving them an upper hand in the neck to neck competition. Leading the team to victory was the invincible captain Shankar himself.

The proud captain and winner of the show Shankar Mahadevan said, "This is like a dream come true. After months of hard work and emotional upswings we have finally been able to achieve what we had set out for. The competition was really close and it was a pleasure facing a stalwart like Shaan in the finals. This is a moment of pride for us to have been able to emerge as the winners of Amul Music Ka Maha Muqqabla. I would also like take this opportunity to thank my team, my family and the audience across the nations who have stood by us and supported us throughout this musical journey."

Both the Sabri brothers participated in this reality show which would be the 4th one for both of them. Toshi was in Mika's team which got eliminated early. He did all in his power but it was not enough. Even though, Toshi remained humble and performed his famous Maahi in one round. He once again proved that he deserves what ever he has achieved in bollywood. The judges were happy with Toshi's success.

Sharib on the other hand also impressed with songs like Sainya Ve and Soniyo( for which he got a perfect 10 from the jugdges). He performed consistently well and helped his team reach the finals and win it. Sharib proved that his success in bollywood was no fluke. Thorugh this show we also got to see the love that the two brothers share, from their talk on sharing clothes to Toshi acknowledging that Maahi was composed entirely by Sharib alone. Success has made their love even stronger.

Toshi and Sharib have proven that if you want something bad enough, you will definitely get it. The evidence of this is their success.

Toshi-Sharib.co.cc would like to Congratualate Sharib and the Shankar's Rockerstar's for their win!!

Song Review: Kanha(Thumari)

Veer's Music released on the 18th of December! Sajid-Wajid's music received lot of praises. Toshi-Sharib also featured in the song Kanha(Thumari). Although the song belonged to Rekha Bhardwarj, Toshi-Sharib also had a significant part to play in the song which is said by many to be the best song in the album.

Here is what the reviewers around the web have to say:

"Then comes Kanha, a Thumri number, by Rekha Bhardwaj and Toshi-Sharib. A nice classical music piece, which will hopefully do some good for the film, Kanha makes sure that it’s not just the classical music lovers who enjoy it."

"However, for class lovers there is a 'thumri' - 'Kanha' which establishes once again that Sajid-Wajid do come with a good enough classical background. They may be making a Paying Guest on and off but listening to 'Kanha' brings an entirely different facet of their composing skills. They also rope in the best in the business with Rekha Bhardwaj leading the charge. Even though the track has a strong classical base to it, the accompanying vocals of Shabab Sabri, Toshi & Sharib ensure that it doesn't just restrict itself to the class audiences. A very good piece musically, it should add value to the film's narrative."

"Rekha Bharadwaj delivers the folksy Kanha in her quintessential manner backed by Shabab Sabri, Toshi Sabri and Sharib Sabri. Wonder if the Sabri brothers had any hand in the composing as well. Whatever the case be, this song too has been nicely done."

"There is an interesting Thumri titled Kanha. Rekah Bhardwaj and Toshi-Sharib complement each other skillfully, creating a spiritual mood for the listener. This is the first track where one senses an endeavor to experiment. If placed well, Kanha could work brilliantly on screen."

Final Verdict: Kanha Thumari is a very good song and possibly the best song in the Veer music album. And this would not be possible without Toshi-Sharib. Another success!

Toshi and Sharib Move on after Jail

Picture
The starlet music composer duo of Sharib-Toshi, after creating commotion among the music-maniacs with Jail has still a lot of melody left in their kitty.  In Jail they have worked in close association with the seasoned composer Shamir Tandon; but in a couple of their forthcoming films, they will be handling all the compositions independently.

Currently the duo is busy composing music for Khalid Mohammed’s film Rutba. “In this film we have Sufi-numbers, but with the tinge of Rajasthani folk,” divulges Sharib. Also the two are roped in by Vikram Bhatt for his next thriller film Phirr. Says an excited Sharib on composing for the prestigious Bhatt camp, “This film has soft romantic numbers, as well as, peppy melodious songs that will be picturised in a club.” Jail has been a grinding training ground for Sharib-Toshi; with the success of ‘Sainya Ve’ they have proved that they are here to stay in Bollywood.
